Picture time.

I'm trying to shrink the video a little, so that's not here yet. Connie is missing from the last pic.

Wow, that looks awesome! Just for the record folks, I don't have good sewer boots, so yes I was wearing wool socks, than plastic bags, than old combat boots. Nothing like DIY!

I think the 4th picture gives the best idea as to how well the torches illuminated the tunnel: really well up close, and than a nice slow fade into shadow.

Yeah, for showing the immediate area, torches are much better than flashlights.

I'd also like to point out that although it looks like Chris and I peed our pants through sheer fear of the tunnels... there in fact was a large current of freezing water in the tunnel... numb feet... But totally worth it!!!

Cold feet for those of us who didn't think... huh... I'm gonig to be walking through a stream, perhaps appropriate footware is in order.

Admittedly, tall rubber boots keep a lot of water out... until it splashes up over the side... then it holds it in. It warms up quick there though. But the first big wave pushing a bunch of water down your socks isn't a lot of fun.

And noise... oh my. Walkies are definately on the plan for next time.

If you ever have a party in a stream cave, and the stream is moving with any speed at all, you can't hear people more than 15' away. Even if they're talking. You have to yell to make any noise.

It's same way in a thick fogbank, BTW... And if it's a REALLY thick fogbank, then you can't hear folks even if they yell... Twisted Evil (been there, done that!)

Ah, that gets me excited for the first big snow storm. All of downtown could blow up, and in a good blizzard I wouldn't hear it a mile away. Of course, I'd miss the local gaming shop. Crying or Very sad

I think those are the sorts of things that need to be incorporated in games fairly often. Back in my middle school years we played hide-and-seek in my neighborhood a few times a week for a year straight. That really taught me about varied terrain and whether. If it was foggy enough, just stand out in the middle of the street where no one will come poking around for you (except of course cars, but those are dodgeable).

WOW! That video is truly telling and eye-opening! I can just imagine a wizard rifling through a spellbook in that dim light, trying to find the right spell as something growls in the pitch beyond!

AWESOME!

Wow.

When we made fireballs for one game, I had a fistful of wads of flash paper and was standing near a torch. I just touched them to the torch and threw. Flash paper burns away into nothing almost instantly, but does so with a very bright flame. You can get it at most magic stores.

This was less for effect and more for plain old pyro fun: We would pour out some Thompson's Water Seal on the garage floor and roll some tennis balls around in the puddle for a few minutes. Then we'd bring them out to the middle of the street, light them up, and swing away with the golf club. It amazing what a kid can get away with in the middle of a week day in the summer.

It seems appropriate to mention Poi, fire dancing. I've been dabbling in it for a while now and the other day Me and my friend finally lit the fire Poi. It was really a scary experience but quite exhilerating.

it's basically a wad of pancaked denim soaked in coleman camping oil on the end of a chain. then you light it up and swing it around! very scary, but it wasn't the heat as much as the noise that makes you jump. you essentially get these 2 massive fireballs swinging a foot from your head with these big 'WHOOOOSH' noises.
